Kansas State University can provide a variety of insurance and claims types to accomodate university business. View specific information below for:

Kansas Tort Claims Act (KTCA)

According to the Kansas Tort Claims Act, K.S.A. 75-6101 (pdf), et seq., the State of Kansas has assumed liability for the negligent or wrongful acts and omissions of its employees and agents, including students – when they are State of Kansas employees – acting within the scope of their responsibilities on behalf of the State of Kansas, which includes Kansas State University. The liability for claims within the scope of the Act may not exceed Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($500,000) per occurrence.

The Kansas Tort Claims Act provides important liability protection for the KBOR member institutions. KBOR members jointly purchase the following insurance policies to provide coverage in areas not covered by the Tort Claims Act.

Auto Liability

K-State's auto liability insurance cards (pdf) must be kept within insured vehicles.

Claims

Complete the Auto Liability Accident Report Form (pdf) and email it to GGB.NRCCLaimsCenter@ajg.com and cheryl_kelley@ajg.com.

Property

Proof of Coverage

Should your department need to request evidence of property insurance coverage, complete the Certificate Request form (pdf).

Claims

Departments or units should complete the Kansas Property Claims Form (pdf) to report property damage or business interruption incidents on campus.

Equipment

Purchase Coverage

Departments can purchase optional inland marine insurance to cover direct physical loss or damage to specifically scheduled equipment. Please email risk@k-state.edu to explore coverage options.

Claims

Departments with scheduled equipment should email risk@k-state.edu to report damage to university equipment and start the claims process.

International Travel Accident and Sickness Insurance

Faculty, staff, students, dependents and qualifying guests are covered by the On Call International global assistance and insurance program when traveling outside of the United States for university business purposes.

Worker's Compensation

Employees of Kansas State University, including student employees, are provided protection under the Worker's Compensation Act. Employees appointed to positions with Federal benefits are covered by the State of Kansas Worker's Compensation program for any job-related injuries or accidents occurring after February 1, 2003. Injured employees must follow the workers' compensation insurance process.
