April 16th - 22nd EARTH WEEK! SEA, SGA, Flint Hills Sierra Club and Pathfinder sponsored Celebrate Earth Week! April 22nd was of course Earth Day.

April 14th 2007 National Day of Climate Action, SEA worked with Gamma Theta Upsilon to raise awareness at Open House about global warming. SEA also co-hosting a movie showing with the Flint Hills Sierra Club from 6:00pm to midnight at the UFM Multi-Purpose Room. The movies were:

March 29th 2007 As part of the Season for Nonviolence, Medea Benjamin, representing Global Exchange, spoke at 8:00 PM in Union Station.

November 16th 2006 SEA hosted speaker Mike Caron from Lawrence's Save the Wakarusa Wetlands Campaign.

October 11th 2006SEA hosted "Dirty Coal or Clean Wind: You Decide," a lecture by Charles Benjamin from the Kansas Sierra Club. Information on topic

September 10th 2006SEA sponsored the showing of "The End of Suburbia" for the Movies on the Grass in the Coffman Commons in front of Hale Library. The turnout was stupendous!

April 19th 2006 SEA hosted our biannual environmental forum in the Flint Hills room in the Union. This year we had three speakers, two professors and one representative of the Land Institute, talk about various aspects of the prairie. Following the forum we had an Earth Week pub crawl! February 10th 2006 After two grueling weeks of very intensive work, SEA did it! Friday February 10th we turned in our proposal to expand the shuttle system for the student bond surplus fund allocation. Read the product of our countless hours of work: Shuttle Expansion Proposal.  Despite an excellent proposal, the committee did not ask us back to formally present our proposal.

November 17th 2005 SEA hosted a guest speaker, Kevin Danaher, who gave a presentation on “Corporate Accountability and the Local Green Economy” in the Union Station. View his talk (1 1/2 hours length, Windows Media Player). Also see Kevin's latest project Here!

April 21st 2005 SEA hosted a panel discussion on Wind Energy in the Kansas Flint Hills. Speakers included Lee Alision (Governor's office), Pete Ferrell (rancher and wind farm developer in Butler County), and Margee Stewart (owner of Running Bird ranch near the Konza Prairie). This program presented a variety of views on an important topic in Kansas. View the forum (1 1/2 hrs. length, Window Media Player).

Look What's Happening with SEA

Movies On the Grass:
Sunday, September 14th, 8pm:
SEA is co-sponsoring the showing of King Corn. Come join us outside of Hale Library for a humorous look at corn production in the US. Bring a chair, this event is FREE and so is the popcorn and soda.

September 17-21: The Walnut Valley Music Festival – Winfield, KS

September 23-24: Kansas Renewable Energy Conference – Topeka, KS

September 26-28 – The Prairie Festival – Salina, KS - Some SEA members will definitely be going to this, so if you are interested in going there will be carpooling opportunities and friends to camp near, etc.

SEA ran the first recycling program at the Wakarusa Music Festival in June of 2005! Click here to check out what we did or here to read an article about the recycling efforts.

SEA sells used notebooks at R & R Clothing and Costumes in Manhattan. R & R is located just north of Pat's Blue Ribbon on 12th St. Check them out when in Manhattan! (Open Mon-Sat Noon-7pm)
