Office of Undergraduate Research & Creative Inquiry presents grants for research projects and travel

MANHATTAN — The Office of Undergraduate Research & Creative Inquiry at Kansas State University is giving several undergraduates a boost with funding support for their research work.

Recipients of the $1,000 Undergraduate Research Award receive the funding to work with a research mentor, while recipients of the Travel Award, worth up to $1,000, use the support to cover costs associated with presenting at conferences, conducting research at an archive or other related research travel.

The following students have received a Office of Undergraduate Research & Creative Inquiry Undergraduate Research Award or Undergraduate Travel Award for fall 2016:

From Greater Kansas City: Chelsea Turner, sophomore incommunication sciences and disorders, Kansas City, Undergraduate Travel Award; Kathryn Crimm, senior in family studies and human services, Lenexa, Undergraduate Travel Award; Madelin Greer, senior in psychological sciences, Lenexa, Undergraduate Research Award; Jazmine Snow, sophomore in microbiology and Spanish, Olathe, Undergraduate Research Award; Allison Beesley, senior in psychological sciences, Overland Park, Undergraduate Research Award; and Ellen Bodine, senior in communication sciences and disorders, Roeland Park, Undergraduate Travel Award.

Navante' Peacock, senior in psychological sciences and anthropology, Haysville, Undergraduate Research Award; Luis Munoz, senior in creative writing, Liberal, Undergraduate Research Award; Carrie Carlson, senior in food sciences and industry, Lincolnville, Undergraduate Research Award; Justin Jones, junior in park management and conservation, Manhattan, Undergraduate Research Award; Angelica Castro, senior in psychological sciences, Salina, Undergraduate Research Award; and Bradyn Nicholson, senior in kinesiology, Wichita, Undergraduate Research Award.

From out of state: Jessica Pirkle, junior in biology, Arenzville, Illinois, Undergraduate Research Award; Cora Farley, junior in animal sciences and industry, Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, Undergraduate Research Award; and Samuel McConnell, senior in architectural engineering, Canyon, Texas, Undergraduate Travel Award.

Apply for the Office of Undergraduate Research & Creative Inquiry awards for spring 2017 by Nov. 4. To receive feedback on your pre-proposal prior to the deadline, or possibly win a $1,000 grant on the spot, participate in SPARK Tank by submitting before Sept. 30 at k-state.edu/undergradresearch/events/sparktank.html.
