Postdoc Appreciation Week, September 19-23, 2016
We enjoyed celebrating Postdoc Appreciation Week! Thank you to the Office of the Vice President for Research and to KAWSE for sponsoring the events.
Monday, September 19: Postdoc Appreciation Week Kickoff
9:00–10:00 a.m., Union 227
Peter Dorhout, vice president for research and professor of chemistry, will speak on how K-State defines postdocs and how the university will address new Department of Labor policy changes. Coffee, juice, and pastries will be provided.
Tuesday, September 20: KAWSE Brown Bag Lunch and Travel Award Information
12:00 noon–1:00 p.m., Waters Hall 137
Bring your lunch and participate in "KAWSE postdoc travel award and you: How to write a successful application." Two previous recipients of the travel award will discuss their applications and experiences. The executive director of K-State Advancement of Women in Science and Engineering will provide information about the application process.
Tuesday, September 20: Professional Development
3:00–5:00 p.m., Mara Conference Center, Trotter Hall (4th floor), College of Veterinary Medicine
Jana Fallin, director of the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning and professor of music education, will lead a faculty application package workshop highlighting how to write a teaching philosophy, research statement, and diversity statement. Refreshments provided. Thanks to the Graduate Student Council for co-sponsoring this event.

All K-State postdocs and K-State Postdoc Association mentors are invited to enjoy boxed lunches and conversation.
Thursday, September 22: Continuing Education
9:00–11:00 a.m., Fairchild 009 Computer Lab
Carol Shanklin, dean of the Graduate School, will introduce the "Advising Doctoral Students" training module, and postdocs will be able to complete a portion of the module toward obtaining mentoring certification.
Friday, September 23: Research Presentations and Networking
2:00–5:00 p.m., Leadership Studies 114 (Town Hall)
Hear research presentations from postdocs and participate in a poster session.
