Chapes presented with American Society for Gravitational and Space Research Founder's Award

Stephen Keith Chapes, professor of biology, received the Founder's Award at the 30th annual meeting of the American Society for Gravitational and Space Research.
This award is the highest honor given by the society whose goal is to foster research, education and professional development in the multidisciplinary field of gravitational research. The Founder's Award is made to a member of the society for distinguished scientific contributions to and leadership in the field of gravitational research.
Around 550 space biology scientists and students participated in the 2014 conference. Chapes studies the impact of space flight and gravity on the immune system. He joined the university in 1984 and has had experiments on 13 space shuttle missions. He is currently working on two NASA grants focused on understanding the impact of extended space flight on the immune system on the international space station.
