Faculty, students from security studies present research in St. Louis

Faculty and graduate students from Kansas State University's security studies program presented research at the International Studies Association Midwest annual conference in St. Louis.

Sam Bell and Carla Martinez Machain, assistant professors of political science, presented their co-authored paper, “Democracy, Transparency, and Surprise Attacks.” Additionally, Machain served as discussant for the “Revisiting and Reimagining International Relations Theory” panel, and Bell served as discussant on the “Legislative and Executive Elections in Comparative Perspective” panel.

Jeffrey Pickering, professor of political science, participated in two panel discussions on job markets. 

Patricia Blocksome, doctoral candidate in security studies, presented “Agriculture Development as Conflict Inhibitor.”

Muhammad Asif Nawaz, doctoral candidate in security studies, presented “The Impact of Suicide Terrorism on Foreign Direct Investment.”

Thomas Lafleur, security studies doctoral student, presented “The Complexity of Deterrence.”

Jan Gleiman, security studies doctoral student, presented “State Support to Foreign Insurgencies: A Strategic Option of the Past, Present and Future.”
