Visiting geographical scientist to discuss community geography on Thursday

Submitted by Shawn Hutchinson

Jonnell Robinson, an assistant professor of geography at Syracuse University, will present "Points, Lines and People: Plotting a Course for Community Geography" at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday in the Big 12 Room of the K-State Student Union.

Robinson's presentation will take place during National Geography Awareness Week and is made possible by the Promoting Transdisciplinary GIScience Research at Kansas State University effort, with support from the provost’s Academic Excellence Fund. Additional sponsors include the geography department and the Beta Psi chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon.

Robinson was the first assistant professor of community geography in North America and was inducted into the visiting geographical scientist program, sponsored by Gamma Theta Upsilon and the Association of American Geographers, to work with other universities interested in the design of community geography programs. She also is a recent recipient of the Chancellor's Citation for Excellence, Syracuse University's highest award, for her work with hundreds of community partners, students and faculty on participatory research projects.
