As mid-term approaches, stress increases. Counseling services, SafeZone and the office of student life provide two, free online training courses to the campus community to enhance skills when working with students who may be struggling and to help better support our veteran students. You don’t have to complete the sessions at one sitting. The system allows you to stop and start at your convenience.

How you can help identify and assist at-risk students: K-State faculty and staff want their students to be successful. Noticing students who are struggling and talking to them about options can, however, be daunting. Faculty/staff who have completed this training have indicated that it was enjoyable, increased their confidence and enhanced their skill in approaching students in need.

For the main faculty and staff training module, which takes about 45 minutes, please open the link and open your own account using the following the enrollment key, ksu61.

Completing this main at-risk training is helpful but not required prior to using this next training about students who are military-related or veterans.

How you can help create a supportive campus for veteran students: Our college community is becoming increasingly aware of the unique challenges facing our returning student veteran population and the negative impact these challenges may have on their health and academic performance.

This online training simulation will assist faculty and staff to better support our veteran students. In this 30-minute course, you will learn how to manage a class discussion around a veteran sensitive topic and help a student veteran who’s struggling academically in your class.

To take the course, please use the link and open an account using the enrollment key, ksu61. You do need to enroll separately for this even if you had previously taken the at-risk training listed above.

If you experience any technical difficulties, please email support@kognito.com.

Although the SafeZone program has assisted in bringing these trainings to K-State, completing them does not make a person a SafeZone ally. If not already an ally and interested in becoming a SafeZone ally, please check out the SafeZone website for details.
