Reminder of class cancellations for All-University Open House

Submitted by April Mason

Members of the university community,

This is a reminder that the All-University Open House will be Saturday, April 5. Classes that start at 2:30 p.m. or later on Friday, April 4, are canceled except in instances where such an occurrence would not be feasible. Faculty who cannot cancel classes on April 4 should have notified room scheduling in Division of Facilities prior to the start of the spring semester and clearly have noted on the course syllabus that class would be held. If faculty failed to notify room scheduling that class would be held at 2:30 p.m. or later on April 4, please do so immediately. The room scheduling number is 785-532-1712.

Please direct inquiries to Susana Valdovinos, director of academic personnel, at svaldovi@k-state.edu.

The original announcement published December is pasted below for your reference.

Dear Deans, Department Heads, Faculty and Graduate Teaching Assistants,

Before we wind down the fall term, I would like to take this opportunity to remind you to include in your intersession and spring course syllabi all the mandatory statements, and please consider including the suggested statements.

Additionally, the spring 2014 final exam schedule is posted online.

All faculty, instructors and GTA's should refer to section F70-73 of the University Handbook to make sure they are in compliance with the final exam policy.

Finally, the All-University Open House will be Saturday, April 5. As usual, classes will be canceled starting at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 4. If instances arise where rescheduling in specialized classrooms or laboratory environments is not feasible, or canceling sections of a multi-section course would result in the loss of an entire class day, then instructor prerogative will determine whether classes will be canceled. In these cases, faculty members choosing to hold classes at or after 2:30 p.m. must notify room scheduling at 785-532-1712 at the start of the spring semester to ensure that their classrooms are available. This determination should be clearly noted on the course syllabus handed out at the beginning of the semester so that students are aware of this far in advance of Open House.

I have asked director of academic personnel Susana Valdovinos, at 785-532-4392 or svaldovi@k-state.edu, to answer any questions you may have about this.

Have a joyful holiday season and a happy new year.

Best regards,

April C. Mason
