International programs office, College of Engineering host speakers from the Indo-US Collaboration for Engineering Education

Submitted by Mary K. Pyle

The international programs office and the College of Engineering recently welcomed Kantha Reddy Muthangi, director for operations, India for the Indo-U.S. Collaboration for Engineering Education; Srinivas Ravuri, vice chairman; and Matam Mohan Babu, director of international relations from Sri Venkateswaraa College of Engineering, Chittor, or SVCET, an active Indo U.S. Collaboration for Engineering Education consortium college.

The delegation shared with K-State staff a comprehensive overview about their institutions and efforts that K-State can review for future collaborative partnerships. Specifically, the Sri Venkateswaraa College of Engineering, Chittor delegation expressed interest in hosting faculty from K-State for both short-term as well as long-term sabbatical visits. With nearly 300 international students pursuing full-time undergraduate degrees, the delegation offered Sri Venkateswaraa as a possible destination for study abroad and student exchange programs.

Attending the presentation from the College of Engineering were: Gary Clark, interim dean and professor; William Dunn, department head, mechanical and nuclear engineering; Alex Mathews, professor of civil engineering; Bala Natarajan, Clair Palmer and Sara Palmer professor of electrical and computer engineering; David Gustaffson, professor of computing and information sciences; Ronaldo Maghirang, professor biological and agricultural engineering; Marcellus Caldas, director of international research and faculty collaboration from the international programs office; and Mary Pyle, special assistant to the associate provost in the international programs office.

"I was especially pleased that representatives from five engineering programs were able to participate and learn about SVCET and the delegation was able to meet with Interim Dean Gary Clark to discuss details of the partnership," Natarajan said.

Joining Natarajan for lunch for additional discussions were Anil Pahwa, Logan Fetterhoof endowed chair professor of electrical engineering; and Vara Prasad, professor of agronomy.
