Amanda Seales to present 'Sideye Seminar: Identifying and Defying Everyday Forms of Sexism'
In honor of Women's History Month, Union Program Council and Feminists Igniting Resistance Empowerment will host Amanda Seales for "Sideye Seminar: Identifying and Defying Everyday Forms of Sexism" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, in the K-State Student Union Ballroom.
The goal of "Sideye Seminar" is to identify and challenge the everyday instances of sexism that continue to marginalize women's voices and their presence as equal members of society. Her video showing the frequency of catcalling on the streets of New York City went viral, and she appeared on CNN challenging the notion that such harassment should be accepted. Seales speaks out through her Instagram and monthly column "Amandaland" at InStyle magazine, and also confronted Caitlyn Jenner on issues of race and equality in America during a livestreamed dinner hosted by Katy Perry on YouTube last summer.
In 2017, she was named one of Time Out LA's Comedians to Watch. She is the creator and host of LA's hit comedy game show, "Smart Funny and Black," at Nerdmelt. She has also written, produced and starred in two seasons of her scripted comedy, "Get Your Life," available on Blavity.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit kstateupc.com or call 785-532-6571.
