The counseling services and the SafeZone programs are offering two online training courses to the campus community to enhance skills when working with students who may be struggling and to help better support our veteran students.

How you can help identify and assist at-risk students

K-State faculty and staff who have completed the training have indicated that it was enjoyable, increased their confidence and enhanced their skill in approaching students in need.

For the main faculty and staff training module, which takes about 45 minutes, please click the following link and open your own account using the following "enrollment key."

We encourage you to go through the at-risk training prior to using this next training.

How you can help create a supportive campus for veteran students

Our college community is becoming increasingly aware of the unique challenges facing our returning student veteran population and the negative impact these challenges may have on their health and academic performance.

To address this concern, we have adopted an online training simulation that will assist faculty and staff to better support our veteran students. In this 30-minute course, you will learn how to manage a class discussion around a veteran sensitive topic and help a student veteran who’s struggling academically in your class.

To take the course, please click the following link and open an account using the following "enrollment key." You do need to enroll separately for this even if you had previously taken the at-risk training listed above.

Although the SafeZone program has assisted in bringing these trainings to K-State, completing them does not make a person a SafeZone Ally. If not already an ally and  interested in becoming a SafeZone Ally, please check out  www.k-state.edu/safezone for details.
