Thurston member of evaluation team

Submitted by Patrice Scott

Linda Thurston, associate dean for research and external funding in the College of Education, will be part of an evaluation team spearheaded by the Education Development Corporation, or EDC, of Boston.

The team, which includes EDC and Westat, an evaluation company in Washington, D.C., as well as Kansas State University, will conduct a multisite, multilevel evaluation of the National Science Foundation’s Broadening Participation in Computing Alliance Program, or BPC-A. The purpose of the program is to create partnerships among academic institutions of higher education with secondary schools, government, industry, professional societies and other not-for-profit organizations to increase the number of underserved and underrepresented students receiving degrees in computing disciplines.

Thurston will bring her expertise in disabilities issues, evaluation, and National Science Foundation Alliance programs to the work of the group. She will be involved in the project for three years; the K-State award totals $65,095.
