Share your news

Do you have news to share with media outlets or the university community? The News and Communications Services team often gets the best story ideas from faculty, staff and students.

Here is a guide to help determine the best way to share your news.
I want to share information with the rest of the university.

Is your department receiving an honor or award? Are you offering a new service or training course for faculty and staff? Does an upcoming maintenance project affect your office?

K-State Today, the university's daily enewsletter, is the best way to reach students, faculty and staff at all of the university's campuses. Only submissions pertaining to Kansas State University are accepted for publication.

Share your news through K-State Today.

I have exciting research news that I want to share.

Would you like media attention for some of your research?  Do you have an upcoming research publication in a peer-reviewed journal? Did you just receive a major grant? Are you part of an industry partnership? Does your work influence people's daily lives?

Let us know. Our team can spread the news about your research and help it to reach local and national media outlets. Research significance and timeliness are key to media coverage.

We'll make sure your research news is publicized in the right way — whether a news release, a video package or a story in K-State Today.

I know an outstanding student with a great story.

Do you have an outstanding undergraduate researcher in your laboratory? Do you know a student who will be receiving a prestigious award or scholarship? Does a graduating student have a great story to tell?

We want to hear about these students so we can share their stories through news releases, K-State Today stories or web features. We also can inform the students' hometown media outlets so their families and friends can know. Fill out our share your news form.

I want to publicize an event.

The Division of Communications and Marketing can only promote university events or university-sponsored events. If your event fits these criteria, there are several ways to promote it.

K-State Today

K-State Today, the university's daily enewsletter, includes an event category for events that pertain to Kansas State University. Including an event in K-State Today does not automatically add it to the university calendar.

Submit your event to K-State Today.

University calendar

The university calendar includes events and activities happening at the university's campuses.

Pulse, K-State's university event calendar system, allows departments and units to enter, share, and display events. Including an event in the university calendar does not automatically add it to K-State Today.

Learn more about Pulse and submit an event to the university calendar.

I would like media training for interacting with reporters.

Do you have a major publication coming up and do you expect media calls about it? Are you an expert in a particular topic and willing to answer questions from reporters?

While it can seem intimidating to work with media, it can also be a great way to spread the news about your work, create research collaborations and develop funding opportunities.

We're here to help. The News and Communications Services team can offer tips and training for interacting with reporters and generating positive media coverage.

Contact our team to schedule a media training session.

I was interviewed by a reporter and featured in a media outlet.

Let the News and Communications Services team know. Send an article link to media@k-state.edu. We'll add it to our list of news clips so we can share it with the university.

We also have press distribution services that can help to track where the story appears. We can provide assistance for any follow-up media requests.
