Media advisory: Media invited to attend Allen County open forum, other K-State community visit events on Oct. 4 and 5

Kansas State University continues touring the state as part of the community visit initiative that focuses on building K-State as the university for the people of Kansas.
ANNOUNCEMENT: As part of the Kansas State University presidential community visit initiative, K-State will host a community visit in Allen County on Wednesday, Oct. 4, and Thursday, Oct. 5. The visit includes activities to engage with, listen to and learn from Kansans in Humboldt, Iola and the Allen County region. Read the news release with more information.
K-State leaders and Connected 'Cats students will lead several events, including community conversations, recruitment activities and events to highlight university partnerships and K-State Research and Extension relationships. The Connected 'Cats students include Allison Heim, senior in human development and family science, Moran, and Brody Nemecek, senior in animal sciences and industry, Iola.
Karen Works, Humboldt, will serve as the local host for the Allen County community visit.

Media are invited to attend the keystone event: a community open forum from 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at B&W Trailer Hitches, The Hub, 1216 Hawaii Road, Humboldt. K-State leaders and Connected 'Cats students will host a dialogue about university and community connections and the student experience. The event also will include free K-State Call Hall ice cream.
Media also are invited to attend other events throughout the two-day community visit:
• Spotlight session: How community development propels Kansas businesses and communities forward, 9-10:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 5, Revival Music Hall, 102 S. 10th St., Humboldt. Hear from collaborators with A Bolder Humboldt and the K-State 105 director, and learn how they are proactively working toward creating sustainable and thriving places in Kansas to learn, work and live.
• Spotlight session: Housing: Collective efforts for a complex problem, 1:30-3 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 5, K-State Research and Extension — Southwind District, Iola office, 1006 N. State St., Iola. Participate in a conversation with SEK Inc., Thrive Allen County and other partners as they discuss regional collaborative efforts to address affordable housing.
