Know Your Water project
In Kansas, water is the life support of our communities and economies: urban or rural, agricultural or manufacturing.
The Know Your Water project is strengthening workforce sustainability and water resource resilience in Kansas communities. The project leverages the expertise of K-State water researchers and strong partnerships with municipalities, K-State Research and Extension districts, higher education institutions, government agencies and residents.
With much of Kansas currently facing drought conditions along with increasing concerns over water quality, it is essential for communities to Know Your Water. The issue is not limited to sustainability alone; it is also tied to public health and economic prosperity. Organizations such as water.org estimate that every $1 invested in water and sanitation provides a $4 economic return because of lower health costs, higher community productivity and fewer premature deaths.
As part of this project, community leaders are partnering with university faculty and students to connect with urban and rural residents to educate and raise awareness through private well testing.
