Bachelor's Degree in Social Transformation Studies
B.A./B.S. in social transformation studies
The Social Transformation Studies program equips students with the knowledge and tools needed to tackle social justice issues. Courses examine the origins and dynamics of discrimination; legal and political movements for social change; and the achievements and leadership of people of color, women and LGBTQ people.
The K-State difference
Social Transformation Studies is the only program of its kind in Kansas and combines the interdisciplinary traditions of American Ethnic Studies and Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies to create a program that is more than the sum of its parts.
The department offers students knowledge and skills that enable them to launch and sustain careers devoted to tackling some of the most pressing social issues facing Kansans, and Americans more broadly, including health disparities, food insecurity, gender violence, and racial and economic inequalities. We foster community-based engaged learning that is responsive to the needs and realities of underserved communities.

Students get hands-on experience in the community through the required Practicing Social Justice course, and can opt to do an additional internship with a local non-profit organization. Small class sizes offer individualized attention from faculty members and foster community among students.
