ERP Modernization Planning Project
Objectives
One of the common stakeholder feedback themes heard throughout the strategic planning process was the need to modernize technology platforms across the university. Specifically, this process highlighted that our core Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (HR, finance and student), which are critical enablers for our enrollment, research and service Next Gen K-State goals, do not meet the functional needs of a modern university. Additionally, it was recognized that data flow between systems and data access must be enhanced to improve the overall digital experience and enable data-informed decision-making at all levels of the institution. We are initiating an ERP modernization assessment, which will guide us in:
- Understanding our options for modernizing these foundational platforms
- Engaging functional users to identify key technology, process, data, and service improvements
- Establishing a sequenced roadmap of projects and activities to drive technology and functional transformation
Methodology
The university selected Huron Consulting Group to assist with this effort. In coordination with an Executive Leadership Team and steering committee, they will guide a review team of university stakeholders in the following:
- IT inventory and data request.
- Stakeholder engagement: Functional interviews, technical workshops and focus groups will be conducted with key stakeholders identified by recommendations from ERP functional leadership.
Based on all the information collected above, the review team will develop a sequenced roadmap for the ERP modernization process.
Project Oversight Structure
The Executive Leadership Team will evaluate and develop guidance and decisions about K-State's path forward relative to platform replacement and related transformation efforts.
Steering Committee
The steering committee will ensure the ERP planning is aligned to K-State’s needs, our Next-Gen strategic imperatives and pursuit of operational excellence. Committee members will guide the project to ensure that actionable and relevant recommendations are delivered to the Executive Leadership Team by providing cross-functional insights, informing priorities, and providing feedback on project options, modernization approaches and a sequenced roadmap.
