Research

Research is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought

The Division of Biology is an active research unit. Within the Division, faculty investigate fundamental questions ranging from molecular, cellular, and developmental biology to microbiology and immunology to ecology and evolutionary biology. These primary research foci form the basis for the three sections within the Division: Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB), Genetics, Developmental and Cell Biology (GDCB), and Microbiology and Immunology. Across these sections faculty use viral, bacterial, fungal, plant, and animal systems in their research. Undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral associates participate in vigorous and productive research programs led by Division faculty members. Faculty, graduate students, and research scientists are highly productive and publish over 130 peer-reviewed articles and books every year. Research programs in the Division are supported with competitive funding from extramural grants and total research funding averages ~$9.5M per year.
