Fall 2024 community visit

Kansas State University will spend Nov. 13-20 visiting several counties in central Kansas: Saline, Lincoln, Mitchell, Ellis and Barton counties. The visit includes several days of activities to engage with, listen to and learn from Kansans.

 

Community visit events

The fall 2024 visit includes events with community leaders, organizations and partners. There will be community conversations and activities to build engagement with several initiatives and areas of the university, including K-State Salina, K-State 105, Engineering Extension and K-State Research and Extension.

Manufacturing and autonomous systems industry roundtable

This session will be a facilitated conversation around current and emerging workforce development needs, specifically in smart manufacturing, robotics and autonomous systems.

All Things Kansas demo

All Things Kansas — a project of K-State 105 — is a free, interactive tool that features data-driven mapping, reports and insights for all 105 counties of Kansas. The website includes access to more than 30,000 data layers and uses more than 120 national, state and local data sources. Join the K-State 105 team for a demo of All Things Kansas and learn how you can use it to analyze and visualize data across Kansas communities.

Know Your Water

Join us for an engaging event hosted by the Kansas Center for Agricultural Resources and the Environment, or KCARE, and K-State 105. We'll be focused on water education and conservation, featuring a variety of interative demostrations. Learn about water systems, efficient irrigation techniques, and stormwater and non-point source pollution through hands-on showcases and demostrations.

Experts from K-State and local organizations will highlight best practices for water management, talk about private well-testing and provide educational resources. This event includes a tour of Pleasant View Farms, where you can see water quality improvement efforts in action.

Math Squad: Beloit after-school program
Host: K-State Research and Extension Post Rock Extension District and Dept. of Mathematics
3:45-5 p.m.

In partnership with K-State's Department of Mathematics, the Kansas Futures Society is enhancing STEAM skills and preparing students for area competitions in mathematics. Math Squad sessions meet weekly with registered youth from local elementary schools, where they engage in collaborative learning, exciting match challenges and fun activities.

Nourishing the brain: Recommendations for combating neurodegenerative diseases

The Nourishing the Brain program is part of K-State Research and Extension's annual lesson series. Together, we will discuss how neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, affect the brain. We will also learn about the MIND diet and how various foods can play a role in preventing brain health decline.
