Water Wednesdays
Making connections, one event at a time.
Each month, faculty and staff from every college, department and unit are invited to get together to learn about a new aspect of our work to solve difficult water resource challenges. These informal gatherings give everyone a chance to meet someone outside of their normal departmental groups, and to discuss new and exciting ideas about interdisciplinary research. Water Wednesdays are an excellent opportunity to pitch a new project and connect with colleagues.
Unless specified, Water Wednesday events are held in Hale Library, Room 181.
September 24, 2025: Welcome back! Our first Water Wednesday of the academic year will give you a chance to greet old friends and meet new colleagues. We'll also introduce our new cohort of KWI Faculty Scholars.
October 22, 2025: Join the Kansas Water Institute for a special Water Wednesday luncheon at this year's K-State Research and Extension Annual Conference. Water Wednesdays offer faculty, staff, and students from every discipline the opportunity to expand their ideas on water research with like-minded professionals from every discipline. It's an opportunity to greet old friends and meet new colleagues!
no Water Wednesday in November 2025 - join us instead at the Governor's Conference for the Future of Water in Kansas on November 12-13!
December 10, 2025: The Kansas Water Institute will celebrate its 2nd birthday with a Water Wednesday dedicated to exploring how gamification boosts interest in research and strengthens engagement across disciplines.
January 21, 2026: Did you know that KWI has many avenues of support for faculty and students? We'll talk this month about how we've helped different university researchers succeed. From technology grants to technical edits for proposals, learn more about how our team can support your work in water.
February 11, 2026: This month features a condensed, hands‑on activity inspired by the CoSearch model for interdisciplinary research development. In this 1.5‑hour session, participants will engage in structured, collaborative conversations that encourage cross‑disciplinary thinking, idea generation, and connection‑building around water challenges.
March 11, 2026: This month's Water Wednesday will be in Hale 581.
We're going to get the creative juices flowing by exploring science storytelling in March. No prior tale-spinning experience is needed, though: we’ll discover easy and practical ways to share the great water-related work you are already doing. Our friends from the Sunderland Innovation Lab will show off some useful tools you can use to boost your communication and help stakeholders connect with your research.
