K-State Engagement Council

K-State is committed to fostering a culture of engagement that enhances our collective impact as a leading land-grant institution. To support this vision, we invite faculty, staff, and campus-based Extension professionals to join the K-State Engagement Council—a collaborative group focused on strengthening engagement activities across the university.

Summer Intensive on Community-Engaged Scholarship

Attention: Early career, tenure-track faculty and advanced graduate students seeking faculty or staff positions in higher education

Michigan State University's Office for University Outreach and Engagement is pleased to host the eighth annual Summer Intensive on Community-Engaged Scholarship. We welcome community-engaged scholars and practitioners with interests in community-engaged research and community-engaged teaching and learning, including service-learning, informal learning, and community-engaged research in courses. Through interactive workshops, field trips, lightning talks, case studies, panel discussions, and individual consultations, Summer Intensive participants explore big-picture issues related to community engagement in a learning community setting and develop strategies and plans for their own successful engagement activities.

Extension 101

Curious about the K-State Research and Extension system?

Engagement Council members are invited to a virtual "Extension 101" training on April 23 from 3-4 p.m., where you'll gain a comprehensive understanding of the Extension system and explore collaboration opportunities. Co-presented by Carla Nemecek and Amy Sollock, Extension Regional Directors, this interactive session offers a chance to connect directly with Extension colleagues and learn more about the system's impactful work.

Welcome to the Engagement Council

We will host the first engagement council event on the afternoon of March 24. Come explore K-State's Continuum of Scholarship, share insights on future training opportunities, and meet fellow K-State colleagues.

Community Engagement in the Arts: Exploring Arts-Based Engaged Scholarship

Moderated by Lisa Florman, Ohio State University's first vice provost for the arts, this panel will explore innovative arts-based community-engaged scholarship. Panelists include Tom Dugdale, associate professor of theatre, film, and media arts; Nyama McCarthy-Brown, associate professor of community engagement through dance pedagogy and artist laureate; and Terron Banner, manager of community learning and engagement at the OSU Urban Arts Space.

Assessing Community Engagement: Exploring Outputs Versus Impact


Assessing impact is an important aspect of community engagement as it demonstrates this work is creating change in communities and in people's lives. Presented by Henry Cunningham, director of community engagement at the University of Louisville, this session will look at outputs and impact, how they differ, and their importance in community-engaged work. It will also explore what should be assessed and how impact assessment should be conducted.

Preparing and Evaluating Engagement Dossiers

In this workshop, Rod Williams, vice provost for outreach and engagement at Texas Tech University, will discuss how to frame your dossiers, incorporate important components, and report impact. This session will also address strategies to evaluate engagement dossiers in external reviews and on primary promotion committees.
