Description:
The IAA helps K-State and other higher education institutions collaboratively and cost-effectively develop and deliver online academic programs in high-demand fields to expand their outreach, attract diverse students, and stimulate faculty and broaden their ability to reach out to students and each other. In just five years, the IAA staff has worked with 16 higher education alliances physically spanning 40 states, and is currently the managing arm of the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (Great Plains IDEA) (www.gpidea.org), the Big 12 Engineering Consortium (www.big12engg.org), and the Alliance for Cooperative Course Exchange in the Plant Sciences (ACCEPtS). To date, students participating in the collaborative programs have noted locations in all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Canada, China, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, Serbia, South Korea, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Furthermore, recognizing that information exchange is a critical component in collaboration, the IAA worked with the Great Plains IDEA registrars and K-State computer programmers to create ExpanSIS, a secure, web-based student information system. This affordable multi-institution ExpanSIS data system is now available to meet the information exchange needs of new consortia.
