Kara Northway’s primary research area focuses on the intersection of English theater history and manuscript culture, especially early modern epistolary studies. In 2012, she was awarded a Folger Shakespeare Library Short-Term Fellowship. She has written articles on English civic pageants, early modern labor in the production of drama, early modern archives, and the letters in Love’s Labour’s Lost. Her latest essay, “It’s All in the Delivery’: An Archival Study of Players’ Off-Stage Letter-Carrying,” appears in Research on Medieval and Renaissance Drama. Her work has also been published in Comparative Drama, Shakespeare Bulletin, and Renaissance Papers.
Her secondary area is writing center studies. From 2008 to 2014, she served the Department as the Development Director for the Writing Center and was a founding member of K-State’s Totally Tutoring. She is a two-time recipient of the International Writing Centers Association Research Grant (2010, 2011). Her co-authored scholarship on student-writers’ perceptions has been published in such venues as Writing Center Journal, Praxis: A Journal of Writing Center Research, and, most recently, Writing Lab Newsletter.
She has taught courses in Shakespeare, the drama of Shakespeare’s contemporaries, early modern women’s writing, and early modern letters. She is the 2013 winner of a Departmental Advising Award for her work with English Majors and Minors.
