Fields of interest: Creative Writing, Technical and Professional Writing, Composition and Rhetoric, and Community Writing.

Ania Payne teaches creative writing with an emphasis on nonfiction and professional writing with a focus on community engagement. Her academic interests include creative nonfiction essays and appreciative-inquiry informed approaches to community writing and community-based learning. Her chapbook of nonfiction essays, Karma Animalia (Social Justice Anthologies, 2022), was the first place winner of Social Justice Anthologies’ Prose Chapbook Competition. Her creative nonfiction essays have appeared in Bending Genres, The Rumpus, Punctuate, Panorama: The Journal of Intelligent Travel, and elsewhere.

In 2023, she received the Engagement Scholarship Consortium’s Research/Creative Activities Grant to support her current community writing project, “Community Asset Mapping Through Front Porch Conversations and Writing.” In 2020, she received the K-State English Department’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. From 2015-2016, she was a King/Chávez/Parks fellow.
