Deferments

Deferments

Deferments are granted to students who have met certain guidelines as authorized by the Kansas Board of Regents and provide eligible students with additional time to pay for their tuition and fees. Deferments are granted for one semester only. Applications must be made for each semester desired.

Authorized Deferment Categories

Financial Aid

  • Granted to students who have met all financial aid application requirements and whose awards have been made by the June packaging date, but whose aid has not been disbursed.
  • Student must pay any amount of tuition and fees over and above the pending financial aid award.
  • Deferment is administered by Student Financial Assistance.
  • Standard deferment (see due dates below), however, students may request a hardship deferment. If the request is deemed legitimate by Student Financial Assistance, the Cashiers and Student Accounts will process an additional 30 days.

Military Veterans

  • Granted to students who are eligible to receive monthly benefits from the US Government.
  • Deferment is administered by Student Financial Assistance.
  • All military veterans will receive a hardship deferment (additional 30 days).

Graduate Students on Assistantship

  • Granted to students who are employed in a research or teaching assistantship and will be receiving a university paycheck.
  • Deferment is administered by Cashiers and Student Accounts.
  • Student receives a hardship deferment.

International Students

  • Granted to students awaiting funds from their home country.
  • Deferment is administered by Cashiers and Student Accounts. No form needs to be submitted.
  • Student receives standard deferment.

Payment Due Dates

  • Standard deferment: September 15 (Fall), February 15 (Spring) and July 15 (Summer)
  • Hardship deferment: October 15 (Fall), March 15 (Spring). No hardship deferment for summer terms.

Charges Not Deferred

The following charges are not deferred:

  • Parking charges
  • Jardine charges and special housing charges
  • Default charges (late fees)
  • Library fees
  • Athletic tickets
  • Previous semester charges
  • International student fee
  • International student health insurance
  • Certain departmental charges (Lafene Health Center, lab checkout fees, etc.)
  • Special handling and late enrollment fees

Note:

Financial Aid Deferments are processed through the Student Financial Assistance Office.

Military Veteran Deferments are processed through the Office of Veteran Affairs.

Graduate Students Deferments are processed automatically after the Student is classified as eligible by Human Capital Services. No additional form is required.
