About K-State First Book
The motto of the K-State First Book is “A campus on the same page.” It is designed to provide a common experience to help first-year students grow academically and socially, and share something with all other first year students.
Transitioning from high school to college can be a challenge. The purpose of the K-State First program, and First Book within it, is to help guide that transition by giving students a common experience with the book along with guided academic and social activities. It also sends the message that people in college read books that might not be in their area of study, and that college can be a fun place to explore new topics and ideas.
A campus on the same page
The events that go along with the books are designed to help students bond over their common reading experience, learn new things about the book, its related themes, and the K-State and Manhattan communities. It can be a great way for first year students to find common ground and start a conversation both inside and outside the classroom.
