Mission and History

Our mission

Our Department’s mission is to deliver excellence in teaching, research, and service so that our students are equipped with the knowledge to understand and predict how our planet works and to apply that knowledge to the key challenges facing society today: meeting demands for energy, minerals, water, and food, while responsibly managing our environment.

Department History

The Geology Department was founded in 1946 but geology courses have been offered at Kansas State University since 1866. More details about our departments long and rich history are available here .
