Session Description: The University is committed to creating an inclusive workplace environment for individual with disabilities. A part of that commitment under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Americans with Disabilities Amendment Act (ADA/ADAAA) for supervisors is to initiate an “interactive process” discussion when an applicant or employee requests reasonable accommodations or become aware of the possible need for an accommodation.
Session Objectives: As a result of this session, participants will:
- Describe the interplay between essential functions, medical restrictions, and reasonable accommodation under ADA/ADAAA, and
- Identify reasonable accommodation requests and when it is appropriate to initiate an interactive discussion for such requests.
