Careers in ICS

A 2018 market research brief from EAB found over 90,000 regional job listings in the field of computer science. Yet across the entire nation we produce less than half that many computer science graduates. Importantly, 70% of those jobs are outside the traditional tech sector. As noted in a recent Chronicle of Higher Education article about the new "CS+" program at the University of Illinois (similar to this one), these employers are not just looking for a Computer Science major. They are looking for people with well-rounded skills and interests who can approach problems from a variety of angles. Our students, with an ability to apply computer science to a wide range of fields, will be well-positioned for this emerging job market.

As shown in the table below from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, software developers make an excellent average salary and the job growth through 2028 is expected to be 21%. Given the number of current job openings coupled with the growth in demand makes having the core skills an excellent way to get into high paying jobs with great future potential.
