Planning for the Future: Farm and Ranch Succession

The transfer of ownership, management, and leadership from one generation to another is an important issue for farms, ranches, and rural communities across Kansas. The 2018 Farm Bill authorized succession planning and farm transition issues to be handled by USDA ag mediation programs.

KAMS can assist farm families with transition services by providing

  • succession planning services for owner generations transitioning farm businesses to the next generation;
  • family meetings to work through transition issues;
  • mediation in situations of high conflict;
  • legal education and information related to legal issues in succession planning and transition;
  • legal education and information related to farm organizations and business selection;
  • financial counseling and farm analysis services to help determine the financial viability of transitioning farm businesses from one generation to the next;
  • services for producers needing out of an existing farm organization ;
  • services to Kansas agricultural land owners to manage or change joint ownership of land.

This website provides agricultural producers general information on succession planning as well as in-depth resources on family, financial, legal and power transfer topics.
