Acquire Missing ITIN and SSN Numbers
Kansas State University is required to report students' qualified educational expenses to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) via the annual 1098-T Tuition Statement form. Failure to provide a student's Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) or Social Security Number (SSN) number may result in the IRS levying a fine against K-State, the student, or both.
To comply with IRS regulations, new automated processes have been developed in KSIS to facilitate the identification and collection of missing ITINs and SSNs. Effective February 25, 2015 students without an ITIN or SSN will be notified via email and directed to provide the information via new self-service screens in KSIS.
Domestic students who do not provide their SSN within two weeks of notification will have an enrollment hold automatically placed on their account. The hold will be automatically removed after the student provides their SSN. International students will not have a hold placed on their account.
