KSUARC members gathered for the Monday night operating night on the occasion of our club photo for the 2018 Royal Purple. This matter was quickly completed, and all photos adhered to community standards. Adviser Vern, WØVMP and David, KAØJPM copied some of the W1AW CW bulletin on 40 meters from Newington. Station Manager Tyler Tryon, KEØJUT showed us a direction-finding antenna he had constructed over the fall vacation. Its elements are from tape measure tapes. Members were interested in making more of these, in order to have a fox hunt competition in the near future. Adviser Vern Wirka, WØVMP, told us about a recent do-it-yourself project, involving constructing a VFO kit for his vintage Heathkit® transceiver, and he showed us a number of photos. David Yoder, KAØJPM, moved that the club allocate $30 for purchase of raw materials (PVC pipe, tape measures and cable clamps, for example) for the antennas. The motion must have passed, because David peeled of two $20 bills from petty cash for the president to make the purchases. (A meeting was not formally called to order for this decision.) The bulletin from W1AW switched to RTTY, and we saw a cool feature of our new ICOM® IC-7300. It can display RTTY signals (the text of the message) real-time on its panel. Accuracy seemed perfect, except when there was some QSB. Members discussed the current state of affairs of Radio Shack®. They're still in business, as of this date! Members also had an information discussion on net neutrality. These informal gatherings are always interesting. You should join. It's free! The monthly business meeting of the KSU Amateur Radio Club* will be at 6:30 P in 135 Ward Hall on Wednesday, November 29, 2017. * Oh, sorry... Amateur Radio Club at Kansas State University...
