Minutes - September 3, 2002
The secretary-treasurer, who took a detour this evening to see his beloved Wildcat women'sVolleyball Team in their home season opener, thanks adviser Dr. Norm Dillman, NØJCC, for the following excellent meeting notes:
The meeting was called to order at 7:03 P. M. in 274 Rathbone Hall by President John Blessing, NØYRL.
Present: (President) John NØYRL, Mike KCØIWH, Dusty KCØJNY, Norm NØJCC,
Bill KO4MH, Dave KAØJPM
Items discussed:
- An effort is in progress to document the date that an Amateur Radio Club
was started at KSU. The archives department at the library indicates that 1937 was the
earliest date they could find for the "Radio Guild." Suggestion: see if
there is anything in the ROTC records about the radio club that
originated there.
- Assuming this really is our 75th anniversary, we discussed the
possibility of some kind of celebration, publicity or special event
station. No decisions were made.
- Norm reported on the repairs that he and Steve, KCØMNA made to the
2-meter beam and the need to replace one of the tower guy wires. No
decisions were made on who and when to do it.
- We voted to have the telephone removed and explored ideas about how to
remotely control the repeaters. Currently, the phone does not turn OFF
the 2-meter repeater, but will turn it ON, and there is no remote control
for the 440 MHz. Three approaches are being considered: (a) 440 MHz
receiver (could be a scanner) and antenna and appropriate interface, (b)
internet control (we already have an ethernet connection), (c) use the
receiver on the 440 MHz repeater as a backup control mechanism. No
decisions were made.
- The 17 September meeting will be devoted to wrapping our vacuum tubes
so they can be sold on eBay. Bill hinted that he might supply pizza
(details to follow). Norm will bring boxes and tape. Bill will bring
packing material and a digital camera. Pictures will also be taken of
the soft drink machine, the VFO, and other items for sale on eBay. We
also remembered that we have pictures of antique radio equipment from the
Bill Dawes estate to offer at auction.
- The was a general consensus that we should purchase a multi-band, HF
vertical antenna to cover all the HF bands from 10 meters to 40 meters
(as a minimum). Members will bring their suggestions to the next meeting
and we will vote then.
Meeting adjourned 8:16 P.M.
