David Pickering to perform organ recital Friday evening

Submitted by David Pickering

David Pickering, associate professor of music, will perform organ music of J.S. Bach, Cesar Franck, Daniel E. Gawthrop, and J.J. Keeler on the historic Austin pipe organ housed in All Faiths Chapel at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24. The performance is free and open to the public and will last one hour.

The All Faiths Chapel organ was built by the Austin Organs Inc., Hartford, Connecticut, and was dedicated in November 1961. It is a unique example of mid-20th-century American organ building, inspired by the thinking and ideas of the late James B. Jamison, an influential figure in American organ building from the 1930s until his untimely death in 1957. All Faiths Chapel received a Historic Organ Citation from the Organ Historical Society in November 2011 and is the subject of a film documentary, "The Pipes of All Faiths Chapel," produced by A.Q. Miller School of Journalism faculty member Tom Hallaq. This film will be premiered in conjunction with an organ recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28.
