Follow-up mission in Uganda for USDA Borlaug Fellowship Program
Caterina Scoglio, Paslay professor of electrical and computer engineering, traveled Oct. 22-25 to Uganda to train others in computational epidemiology.
Scoglio and her doctoral student, Md Mahbubul Huq Riad, were the invited guests of Musa Sekamatte, a senior epidemiologist with the Ministry of Health of Uganda. Sekamatte, a Borlaug fellow, had been mentored by Scoglio during his fellowship time at Kansas State University.
The Borlaug International Agricultural Science and Technology Fellowship Program promotes food security and economic growth by providing training and collaborative research opportunities to fellows from developing and middle-income countries.
Activities while in Uganda included a day-long workshop and training session at the Ministry of Health in Kampala on "Network Tools for Computational Epidemiology: GEMF, Gephi, and More," as well as a discussion about modeling of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever and needed data collection.
