Showcase your research at the GROW and EXCITE virtual summer workshop
K-State faculty, staff and students are invited to join the Office for the Advancement of Women in Science and Engineering, or KAWSE, for the annual middle and high school outreach summer programming, the Girls Researching Our World, or GROW, and Exploring Science, Technology, and Engineering, or EXCITE, Summer Workshops. This year, we're offering our popular camps virtually from June 1-12, with multiple ways for you to participate:
- Design and facilitate a hands-on activity for students that demonstrates your research, covers fundamental concepts, or showcases interesting phenomena in your disciplines. The activity may be live or pre-recorded.
- Host a live Career Chat to highlight your career path and other career opportunities within your field.
- Provide a virtual tour of your lab or research facility. The tour may be live or pre-recorded.
- And more!
These programs are designed to encourage and support girls' interest in STEM fields. Last year, more than 65% of students reported that because they participated in our summer workshops, they are now more likely to pursue a career in science.
Unlike the Saturday Workshops, this event has no theme. We hope to include a large variety of STEM topics in our activities, and all interested parties are encouraged to sign up. This includes K-State faculty, staff and students. The camp will be hosted virtually via Canvas, using Zoom to provide live sessions. Activity proposal forms are now available online and are due by May 8. As always, we are happy to provide letters of collaboration to grant agencies for those who participate in these events. Also, the KAWSE program coordinator, Morgan Greene, is available to answer any additional questions and/or brainstorm activity sessions.
