Dance program to host 'Racism & The Dance World' webinar with guest presenter Karida Griffith Walker
The K-State dance program will host "Racism & The Dance World," with guest presenter Karida Griffith Walker, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, via Zoom. Griffith Walker will provide historical context and social science insights that will shed light on the current state of the dance world, and she will also give some guidance as to the way forward from here.
All K-State students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend this free one-hour Zoom webinar followed by approximately 30 minutes of Q&A. Advance registration is required to receive the Zoom link and recommended pre-webinar readings from the speaker.
Griffith Walker has an extensive performance career — Radio City Rockettes, Cirque du Soleil, Dorrance Dance, HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" and more, and has taught at Pace University, Broadway Dance Center, various conventions, festivals and local studios. Griffith Walker is the founder of the Tap Teachers' Lounge, an online training program for studio tap dance instructors. She has been an artist-in-residence teaching tap dance history in schools since 2016. Recently, Griffith Walker has been offering seminars about "Racism & the Dance World" to dance educators and artists across the country, and is now offering a professional development initiative for dance educators called "Roots, Rhythm, Race & Dance."
