Registration open for annual Three Minute Thesis competition

Submitted by Megan Miller

K-State master's and doctoral students from any discipline are invited to participate in K-State's annual Three Minute Thesis, or 3MT, competition, hosted by the Graduate School.

The competition challenges graduate students to present a compelling oration on their research topic and its significance in three minutes using just one slide. 3MT facilitates development of academic, presentation and research communication skills, especially focusing on the students' ability to communicate the importance of their research to the broader community.

A student's program of study must contain an original research project. The degree program need not formally require a thesis or dissertation. However, the 3MT presentation topic must cover the original research project that is being conducted as part of the student's K-State graduate degree program.

Participants will submit a video of their three-minute presentation. The competition consists of two rounds, in which video presentations will be played live in a Zoom session. Final round judges will select first- and second-place winners, and the audience will select a people's choice award winner. The first place presenter will represent K-State at the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools 3MT Competition.

Visit the Three Minute Thesis webpage to learn more and register.

Registration deadline is 5 p.m. Feb. 8.
