Student of concern reporting, website updates and protocols

Submitted by Carolyn Jones

K-State is known as a university that has excellent student support. It wouldn't be possible to provide this support without the collaboration of our faculty, staff and campus partners.

To this end, the Office of Student Life website has updated information regarding how to help students in need and how the office responds to reports received about students of concern. Please check out the updated website to learn more about protocols we take when responding to students of concern.

In the fall 2020 semester, the Office of Student Life received 513 student of concern reports. This number does not include students who contact our office themselves or students we worked with for COVID-19 concerns. The number of reports received each semester has grown each fall semester since the student of concern guide's implementation and is a testament to the community of care developed at K-State. These reports indicate concerns on a broad spectrum; from a student not attending class or working through medical concerns, to more elevated concerns related to mental health, suicidal ideation and students impacted by various trauma.

The updated student of concern website also has information about other helping resources, both on campus and in the community, as well as tips for others who may be responding to students of concern.

If you ever have a question or concern regarding a student's well-being please do not hesitate to make a student of concern report online, or reach out to the Office of Student Life at 785-532-6432, stulife@k-state.edu, or stop by 201 Holton Hall. We are happy to help.
