Teaching and Learning Center presents professional development event today

Submitted by Teaching and Learning Center

As part of the Teaching and Learning Center's Professional Development Series, Patricia Ackerman, professor of language arts, will present "Online Education: Through the Lenses of Technical Communication, Readability & Plain Language" from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, via Zoom.

K-State's Academic Vision statement promises that faculty will "endeavor to prepare citizens who will continue to learn and will contribute to the societies in which they live and work." Advances in technology and the recent global pandemic are changing the ways that society functions. While faculty must preserve traditional academic writing standards, online teaching platforms invite consideration about how technical writing and plain language principles might enhance readability of online course curricula, making it easier for students to find, understand and use important information.

This presentation invites you to consider how effective use of technical communication principles enhances online learning, why it is important to consider the history and practical applications of readability analysis, and how the Principles of Plain Language enhance effectiveness of online course content.
