Indigenous Peoples Day: Save the date for Oct. 11

The Indigenous Faculty and Staff Alliance with the Native American Student Body invite you to save the date for Indigenous Peoples Day 2021.
Monday, Oct. 11, marks the day for Sovereignty: Food, Film, and Policy in this virtual/in-person hybrid conference scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
To support our theme of Sovereignty: Food, Film, and Policy, our featured speakers include Tiana Suazo (Taos/Jemez) discussing Indigenous youth empowerment, Joe L. Graham (Pueblo Laguna) from the Native American Agriculture Fund, and Joseph G. Hiller (Oglala Lakota), speaking of land sovereignty.
The featured lunchtime film includes "Gather: The Film" with a discussion about the growing movement among Natives to reclaim our spiritual, political and cultural identities through food sovereignty.
The breakout sessions of Indigenous Peoples Day features a discussion of K-State First Book, "The Marrow Thieves" by Cherie Dimaline. The afternoon keynote has Jason Champagne (Red Lake Band of Chippewa), sharing his journey as a Native chef and words of encouragement for moving forward with reclaiming our lost nutritional ways.
