Kansas 4-H contracted by Kansas Department of Education
Kansas 4-H Youth Development was awarded a contract by the Kansas Department of Education for $4.2 million over the next three summers to provide 4-H summer programming opportunities to address COVID-19-related learning loss in counties across the state.
Shane Potter, 4-H Youth Development specialist, will oversee this strategic contract. Currently, 4-H Youth Development is seeking a project/program coordinator to assist in the administration of this contract to counties across Kansas. Please apply by Nov. 28.
Building upon the long record of successful partnership with local school districts and leveraging the state's largest youth development network reaching all 105 counties, Kansas 4-H Youth Development will use summer enrichment programs to address the academic, social, emotional and mental health needs of youth as a part of the American Rescue Plan — Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Plan.
Gaining lost ground due to COVID-19 will be critical for young children whose learning builds on previous skill development. 4-H will help youth make up for unfinished learning because of remote or hybrid school situations and compromised connectivity or technology access. Kansas 4-H Youth Development will provide additional hands-on, project-based summer enrichment activities in rural and urban communities in Kansas.
