TLC reminds K-State of well-being resources during challenging times

Submitted by Noah Renken

The Teaching & Learning Center hopes you have had a wonderful spring semester thus far. We recognize there are many stressors outside the classroom right now and wish to acknowledge the effects these circumstances may have on faculty, staff and students. Some of you have reached out for guidance working with students who may be affected by war or other violence across the globe. And we know we are all dealing with the continued impacts of the pandemic, social justice and other issues. In the midst of these circumstances, we would like to remind you of several resources across our campus to support well-being.

● Lafene Counseling and Psychological Services, or CAPS, is committed to providing mental health services for K-State students. CAPS supports the well-being of students personally, academically and socially. To learn more and/or schedule an appointment with a licensed therapist, please visit the CAPS website. YOU@KSU is another option available to students, faculty and staff. Human Capital Services offers a wellness portal for faculty and staff as well as links to the Employee Assistance Program.

● International Student and Scholar Services office is available for advising. For more information about the office and/or to schedule an appointment, please visit the website or call the office at 785-532-6448.

● We believe instructors should infuse empathy into their course design, including course structure, assignments and assessments and syllabi. The TLC has several resources for how you can do this, including video resources from Don Saucier’s YouTube channel, Engage the Sage. Please visit the Teaching & Learning Center website for access to these resources.

● Lastly, our “Mindful Returns” toolkit consists of several resources from offices at K-State and external sources related to mental health; physical health; diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging; empathy; communication and student success. Please visit our Mindful Returns page for easy access to these important resources.

As a K-State community, we continue to offer grace and compassion to one another during these challenging times. We are grateful for your continued support of your students and colleagues. We hope you will consider these resources throughout the semester.

With warm regards,
Teaching & Learning Center team
