An update on the Sexual Assault and Violence Survey

Last October, the Center for Advocacy, Response and Education, Michelle Toews and Kristin Anders from the applied human sciences department, and the Sexual Violence Climate Survey Task Force announced the launch of an updated Sexual Assault and Violence Survey for both K-State students and faculty/staff. With the spring semester soon coming to a close, we wanted to provide you with an update on the progress in analyzing the data and when you can expect to learn more about the results.
First, thank you to everyone who lent their voice to this important research. There were 1,319 student responses and 786 faculty/staff responses recorded for analysis. As anticipated, preliminary analysis indicates that the data mirrors national statistics on college campuses, as well as emerging national data that has shown an increase in domestic violence and stalking victimization across the country since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The preliminary analysis has been shared with President Linton, members of the president’s cabinet and additional stakeholders. A full executive summary will be released to the university community in early fall 2022 as part of a comprehensive communications plan that we are actively working on with partners on the president’s cabinet. We want to ensure we are providing a complete picture of this important topic, so we greatly appreciate your patience in allowing for the full analysis and your trust in us as we bring this work to fruition.
As we near the end of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, you are encouraged to join Wildcats Against Sexual Violence from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, April 28, for Wildcat Walk. We’ll march to Bosco Student Plaza from the Anderson Hall lawn in solidarity, showcasing that when we show up for each other, we create stronger, safer communities where everyone thrives.
