Kim Dierks Tutor of Distinction scholarship recipient selected

Submitted by Academic Achievement Center

The Academic Achievement Center announces Jonah Douglass, a junior in statistics and data science, as the Fall 2022 Kim Dierks Tutor of Distinction scholarship recipient.

Douglass started as a peer tutor for the Academic Achievement Center in spring 2021. Since then, Douglass has spent more than 600 hours tutoring K-State students in statistics courses.

"My favorite part of tutoring is being of service to others and helping them understand something that they didn't previously know," Douglass said. "Seeing the moment when something finally starts to click, when they finally understand a concept, because of something I did is one of the best feelings ever. Helping others is a very rewarding experience for me, and I'm blessed to be able to do that on a daily basis with tutoring subjects that I love."

Kim Dierks, previous managing director of Tutoring Services, was an integral part of the Academic Achievement Center for more than 14 years. She dedicated her work to create a place where all students are welcome and developed fantastic teams of student leaders. She provided students with opportunities for leadership, growth and achievement. Dierks continues to demonstrate her commitment to student success by honoring the work of student tutors through the generous gift made to fund the Kimberly Dierks Scholarship for Tutors of Distinction.
