Red Corn to present TLC professional development series

Submitted by Ashley A Schiffer

Alex Red Corn, Osage citizen and assistant professor of educational leadership, will lead a need-to-know event, "Improving Teaching & Learning About, For, and With American Indians," from noon to 1 p.m. today, Oct. 11, via Zoom. The presentation is part of the Teaching and Learning Center's Professional Development Series.

This session will outline some common stereotypes and misconceptions found in educational environments, curricula and media related to American Indians and Indigenous Peoples. Participants will be asked to explore their own lessons, as well as explore new ways to more appropriately incorporate Indigenous peoples and perspectives into the learning environments.

Red Corn also serves as co-chair of the K-State Indigenous Faculty and Staff Alliance, executive director of the Kansas Association of Native American Education, and chair of the Kansas Advisory Council for Indigenous Education Working Group.
