Haribabu Arthanari to present Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics Seminar

Haribabu Arthanari, professor of biological chemistry and molecular pharmacology at Harvard Medical School, will be the featured speaker for this week's Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics Seminar. Arthanari will present "Deciphering the Impact of Disordered regions in Mechanistic Biology" at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, in 120 Ackert Hall.
In an era dominated by AI — powering our vehicles, completing symphonies, crafting art and predicting protein structures — the relevance of experimental structural biology comes under scrutiny. However, this is a renaissance period for structural biology. Here, AI serves as an adept assistant, streamlining established workflows, while experimental structural biology elucidates the nuances, bridges gaps, and correlates structure with function. This talk will underscore the instrumental role of NMR in uncovering these intricate details within structural biology, linking them directly to mechanistic insights. The extracted structural information will be harnessed through computational biology for targeted therapeutic interventions. The talk will focus on the functional role of disordered regions in the human proteome. Discussions will encompass systems such as kinases, phosphatases and transcription factors.
