Warm up with free yoga this winter

Submitted by Kathryn Harth

Start this year focused on your mental and physical well-being. Noontime Yoga is for all levels and abilities and is free to attend. This volunteer-based program provides an outlet for students, staff, faculty and community members to practice yoga together in a friendly, non-competitive environment.

The group will meet throughout the spring semester from 12:05-12:50 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. View the full schedule.

The group will meet:

  • Mondays at the International Student Center; Martha Caldas and Maria Beebe will alternate teaching.
  • Tuesdays at McCain Auditorium; Kathryn Harth and Dan Swenson will alternate teaching.
  • Wednesdays at the International Student Center; Ayumi Amama and Huan Guo will alternate teaching.

What to expect during noontime yoga:

  • Class begins at 12:05 p.m. and ends at 12:50 p.m. so those spending their lunch hour with us have time to travel across campus.
  • It's okay if you arrive late or have to leave early. Just come as you are and enter/leave quietly.
  • We ask that you sign in each day and acknowledge that you've read the waiver. Preview it here.
  • All are welcome. Whether you are a veteran yogi or a beginner, noontime yoga is a safe space where you can just be you and grow in your practice.
  • Please bring your own yoga mat.

More details about the yoga new locations:

  • International Student Center — There will be a sign out front to help you know which building to enter. The multipurpose room is just off the lobby, and we'll have a sign on the door.
  • McCain Auditorium lobby — We will practice in the newly remodeled lobby that overlooks the outdoor courtyard. You can enter the lobby from either side — the north door if you're coming from the Goldstein Circle or the south door across from Nichols Hall.

Yoga not only improves strength, balance and flexibility, it can help manage stress, increase energy and lead to better sleep. The noontime yoga community has been going strong for 20 years and gives K-Staters a mid-day break from the stresses of class and work. The group's yoga leaders are volunteers from K-State and the community.

Noontime Yoga started in 2002 as a part of K-State's Campaign for Nonviolence. Many thanks to the International Student Center and McCain Auditorium for hosting the program this semester and to the leaders who donate their time and talents to continue this unique opportunity for the K-State family.
