Rubin recognized as research fellow by College Sport Research Institute

Submitted by Patrice Scott

Lisa Rubin with Richard Southall, director of the College Sport Research Institute.

Lisa Rubin, associate professor of special education, counseling and student affairs, was recognized as a research fellow at the 2024 College Sport Research Institute, or CSRI, conference March 20-22 at the University of South Carolina.

The College Sport Research Institute research fellow designation is reserved for researchers whose contributions to college sport-related scholarship are recognized by the institute and other outlets. The fellow designation is intended to be of distinction within and beyond academic communities and encourages high standards of research related to college sport.

Rubin has been involved with the institute for more than a decade as a presenter and case study judge. This year, Rubin and Michelle Kenny, a doctoral student in student affairs in higher education, co-presented "Look Away, Look Away: A Case Study on Ole Miss Disregarding a Controversial Mascot." The poster presentation stemmed from a project in Rubin's spring 2023 Higher Education Administration course.

"Lisa has been highly supportive of CSRI over the past decade and has been active at our conference and publishing in our journal," said Mark Nagel, professor and CSRI associate director. "It is a pleasure to formally recognize her achievement in 2024."

CSRI's mission is to encourage and support interdisciplinary and inter-university collaborative college sport research, serve as a research consortium for college sport researchers from across the United States, and disseminate college sport research results to academics, practitioners and the public. CSRI sponsors the Journal of Issues in Intercollegiate Athletics.
